Gutter guards

  • Pine needles, sycamore seeds or birch catkins on the roof
  • A roofline that is hard or costly to reach

Gutter guards do not mean you never need us again; anyone who says so is selling something. What they do is keep the bulk of the leaves out of the gutter, so a twice-yearly clean becomes a yearly check: we clear what has settled on top, flush the runs and look at the outlets.

Whether they pay for themselves depends on your trees. A house in open ground with no trees nearby fills slowly, and a single yearly clean is cheaper over five years. A house under a sycamore, a row of limes or a stand of pines can fill in a few months, and that is where guards earn their keep. Our prices page puts the five-year cost of both side by side for your house.

Which guards we fit

We fit rigid powder-coated mesh that clips to the gutter’s front edge and sits under the first row of tiles. We do not fit foam inserts or bristle brushes: both hold leaves and seed, and both end up needing to be pulled out and cleaned, which costs more than the clean they were meant to save.

Guards are fitted only on a run we have just cleaned and flushed. They carry a ten-year guarantee on the mesh and on our fitting.

“Water was coming over the back gutter every time it rained. They found a tennis ball and a fist of moss sitting on the outlet, cleared it from the ground and sent me the photos before they had even left the street.”
